Peet and I took a bunch of stuff apart and prepped for blasting. I was pleasantly surprised to find the inside of the beam (springs - torsion arm bearing surfaces - bushings) in great shape.

Unable to come up with a replacement heater tube to nose elbow. I resorted to repairing the original. It was in two pieces with big rust holes separating them. I braced together, then made the repairs. Still have more to do, but getting there.

Spindles fully disassembled and cleaned. There was one bad kind pin and a couple of worn bushings. I installed new bushings, and found a good used original king pin.

Notice the BD spring and cup arrangement, where 55+ bus has a solid spacer.

Thinking about wheels and tires. We have 2 ways to go.

1- Vintage tires from coker 6.00 bias-look radials. Not very aggressive tread, but a good stable tire. https://www.cokertire.com/tires/excelsior-stahl-sport-radial.html

2- BFG all terrain tires. 215/65/r16 will need a wider wheel than the original BD wheels.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=BFGoodrich&tireModel=All-Terrain+T%2FA+KO2&partnum=165SR6KO2&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

There is aftermarket 16" x 5.5" wheels available now that we could mount these on, and avoid modifying originals.

Maybe do up a set of aftermarkets with BFG, AND originals with bais look Excelslior?
