Nope! Here is two designers that built around a VW engine. First is a Stewart Headwind, second is the Volksplane.

That's an awesome ultralight. I got a ride in one a few years back at OshKosh. I'm pretty sure it was an XL. I'm a svelte 250lbs and he(the pilot) was able to get the both of us into the air… on a grass strip. He was a little guy though.

^^^If you got a ride in one, it was likely a Double Eagle with full four cylinder engine. The LEXL is a bigger single seat ultra light for us big guys, and yes you are correct it is the LEXL I'll be building. Wink

You are correct sir. It did have a four cylinder engine, not the "better half" as described by Mr Milholland. I'm pretty excited to see your project take form. Be following it like a fat kid on a twinkie.

Got my rib kit. \:D/ Enough 1/4" sticks and gusset material to build 26 wing ribs. Got to order some glue and whip up a rib jig. Once I get set up, I plan to lay up a rib a day.

Can't wait to see the construction process. Maybe I'll have to buy the same kit.
