Oh shit.....cats out of the bag! I'm already getting PM's....people wanting to buy the pre A. I'm not interested in selling the car outright. I've only considered parting with this car in some form of trade for a certain barndoor SC |

| Sorry, I didn't put a name to the Pre A but I guess people could figure it out anyways. Coupes especially Pre A are really hard to find unrestored and go for such a high dollar it when finished it seems like a great bargain when you find a decent project. If I had the cash and knew where to find em I would load up the back yard with these rigs. 59 had the highest production of any A or Pre A coupes and I think that amounted to a wholloping 4200 or something around that. How many 59 Bugs or Busses were produced? |

That's the thing with the pre A cars.. if you're lucky enough to find one(super low production #'s), be ready to throw down some serious $$$. Even completely clapped out, pre A's with unmatched closing panels are going for <>20 G's. Doors, decklids, and hoods from one car don't even come close to fitting another car of the same year!...everything was hand pounded. Even today an older "restored" (i use this term lightly) pre-A is going for $30-50,000. And I speak from experience a "well done"(again, i use this term lightly) outlaw will fetch "100,000++. Thing is early porsches are sought after by the old money ballers....the kind of guy's that drive 996 GT 2's as daily drivers. They're status symbols...doesn't really mater to them what the cost.
That's why I'm loving your car rusty. It's a gritty survivor...rough around the edges..but wearing it well. I can't tell you how much joy it gave me to see the old "stuffy" Porsche guys walk by my car and give it the long "stink face" glare...only to walk by it again,.. and again looking at it in more detail every time. The visual asthetics made them want to like it...they're just afraid to. Enjoy this when it happens to you! |

You guys are killing me.. I feel ready for something new in my life.. Almost "bored".. Bored with my rides, want something new to be excited about.. Not sure I want to give up a running and driving fairly dialed in BD single for another HUGE project that is going to cost me LOADS to finish.. Plus, I am a Volkswagen guy.. but damn I love the look of those cars.. maybe this could be my split window?? maybe this is my midlife crisses car? I have a guy right now wanting to buy my deluxe, and if I traded off my single.. I wouldn't have any BD's anymore... humm.. is that no bueno? Have my BD's started to define KCW? Or just a flash on the time line of KCW? Maybe these highly sought after 356's are the next phase and time line of KCW? Something Rusty has started, but a new nitch? We have become GREAT at building busses, building em right, turning them around quick, putting them back on the road and making it look easy... are 356's next? Too much to think about.. but interesting all the same.. Am I analizing this too far? Am I bored? am i rambling on?? YES!!! it's Sunday... I am alone at the shop.. I've got margarittavile playing on the sirrius radio.. It's pretty nice today.. maybe I will go ride my chopper in a bit.. |

There is a needed niche in the "custom build" end of the 356 pond. The only company to really dabbled in this was the Parts Obsolete guy's. To put a KCW spin on these cars...and to get some of them back on the road would be interesting.
No need for KCW to do less VW's, early Porsches are the same shit, you just open up the shop to resto's on these cars... and get a few out there...I don't understand why in this country we have such a definitive separation between Porsche and VW...Most Porsche purists freak when you show them how many 356 parts are shared with a type 1. Go look at what a 356 axle costs at Stoddards. last time I checked they were like $700 . It's the same shit that is on an early big window Beetle. I had an axle that was bad on my 57 356 A, pulled an axle out of a 59 bettle same part# same axle $40 from Sport car here in the Springs.
John, this car wouldn't cost a ton to complete, I've already rounded up a ton of the specific needed bits. Most everything else needed is shared with early type 1's
Just a side note.. I know Don F. is hot for a SC. If we traded I could see my 58 SC going to Don. Could be another job for KCW
I love how deep the rockers are on the early and pre A 356's. They make them look even lower. I love the stance of this car!

Here goes my 2 cents.
What the hell are you thinking? You CAN'T sell Grandpa. KCW would never be the same in my eyes. I know it's just a bus right. Wrong. it's the story and the history of this deluxe that makes it part of KCW , and what KCW is to the Volkswagen community.
I would really hate to see you sell of the single also, after all the work and your history of having one, selling it, and then wanting another one.
Maybe i just get to attached Na. DON'T DO IT |

WOW! I feel like I am watching KCW history being made here. I'm loving this John, and think this will lead to something uber positive to your already successful business. The future looks bright, and I am waiting with antisepation for these builds. Now if I could just get you interested in 914's, all in the world would be right. |

OH FUCK Dont you go blaming me for all of this shit. I will admit to bringing the 356 bug to KCW but this Barndoor trading shit is not going to fall on my lap John all I can say is sorry, you got 356 Swine Flu and for me at least that meant loosing quite a few of my Buses to feel better!! That Single can't be replaced easily, don't let the Fever overwhelm your judjment. Posting that pic of the EARLY gray Coupe isn't fair, like posting a pic of a smoking hot chick and asking who would like to have sex with her, whats not to like? |

| I think I remember a 356 in the Samba classifieds drag section not long ago. Decent uppers, rusty lower, and pretty reasonable price. Another possible KCW project ? Anybody ? |

Finish the Matodor (sp?) Thats an early car. Build the car you have never touched...a thing , scwimmer or a kubel. How about a Brazilian Puma? I know, I know a Bradley GT. Fast back or a wagon? How about an early bug camper conversion?
I know a vw powered airplane. |
